Can you add highlighter of the text into Firefox PDF reader. For me this is more important than adding text and drawing in it.

Often, I would be reading an article online or a pdf file I downloaded and I would like to highlight sections of the text but, unfortunately, I cannot. The current add-ons are mediocre at best and non-functional at worst.

What I envision is the following:

1. I highlight a piece of text and right-click on it

2. In the right-click dialog prompt, there is an option to "Highlight Text"

3. The text is highlighted in some color (probably yellow)

The highlighting doesn't have to persist (if I refresh the page, the highlighted text would be un-highlighted), although it would be nice if it did somehow.

If there is already a feature like that, please point me to it.

Thanks a ton!

For pdf highlighting (and other editing capabilities) check out this idea: Improve PDF editing functionality

Sounds like you're referring to Mozilla Firefox, and specifically the innate PDF-reader they included in the browser several years ago (which I much prefer over the bloated Adobe Reader package).

Hmmm.. PDF editing capability is a big jump up from what is offered right now. I wonder if it's worth the effort on their part.

Fwiw, if you're on a Mac, the built-in Preview app opens PDFs and I'm pretty sure allows some basic editing and probably highlighting.

Hey all,

This was shared with the product team, and we're happy to report that it's on our backlog. We're currently collecting and evaluating feedback about the recent editing features in 106, then we'll follow up with more details on next steps/timeline/etc.

please, add a text highlighter in built in pdf tool so that it can reduce dependency on other pdf software while being online.

This feature is very needed for pdf viewing and making notes. It's one of the only reasons I still use MS Edge for pdf editing.

Highlighting tool in Firefox PDF view

Hello, I actually wanted a highlighting tool in the Firefox PDF view as it is really a basic need. So, if it is included then one don't have to install any other PDF viewer and Firefox would be the best choice..

ADD HIGHLIGHTERS TO PDF EDITING

Kindly Add highlighters to the PDF edit section : This would be more useful to a lot more users and make it even more useful, that is highlighter with the basic colors that can be selected on the go, and highlight texts in a straight line... Thanks in Advance.

@plutonium that's a popular request - there's actually a separate thread here:

Dark mode for Embedded pdf Viewer

Feel free to upvote and add your input there. It always helps when we review ideas.

Thanks!

Few highlighters colors (predefined). Could be: yellow, green, orange, red, purple and blue (like real "stabilo") with 35% of opacity.

That's only example, development team could check for best renderer 🤗

Integration of HIGHLIGHTER and SAVE option in Firefox Browser PDF Reader

Firefox PDF reader already have double page viewing, rotating pdf features but  lacks HIGHLIGHTER, HANDTOOL(for lighter scrolling) , SAVE the highlighted pdf  facillity, which other browsers owns.

Please add that feature which would be really useful for online e-book readers to notedown the important points on their e-books.
